Pear & Rosella Iced Green Tea

Cold-pressed juices are great, but often times are too sweet and what they really are is just liquid sugar that has been extracted from the fruit itself + the vitamins. I'm not a huge juice drinker (more of a smoothie gal here), what I am though, is a huge tea drinker: peach iced tea, lychee iced tea, straight up unsweetened iced tea, I love them all! My dad is too, he loves cold and refreshing drinks, especially when it's hot out. While I often buy unsweetened ones or make my own, my dad likes buying the sugar-filled ones that are full of preservatives and too much added sugar.

This is what I often make for my dad when he wants something sweet and refreshing. Straight up pear juice is too intense for the both of us, we like things a little tart and light, hence why we've added rosella! Sometimes we'll use fresh lemon juice, but when we're in a pinch of time and don't have citruses lying around Herbilogy's rosella extract comes in so handy. So does its green tea extract, there's no need to brew + chill the tea first and it keeps well in the fridge for about two days. It's a perfect grab and go drink for my dad when I'm not around to make one for him myself.

I can't tell you enough how much I love drinking this, especially with fresh sliced strawberries. Slurping into fresh thinly sliced strawberries feels like you're drinking bobba tea or those tea with toppings like aloe vera and grass jelly, only healthier and much simpler to make!

Pear & Rosella Iced Green Tea

Serves two

Ingredients

300 ml cold drinking water

Juice from 2 large sweet pears

2 tsp green tea extract

2 tsp rosella extract

5 strawberries, sliced thinly

Method

  1. Slice the strawberries into thin pieces and set aside.

  2. Peel and remove the core from two sweet pears then extract the juice. If you don't have a juicer, simply use a blender or grate the pear with 50ml water and then strain the liquid through a fine sieve, leaving the pulp behind.

  3. Mix 2 tsp green tea and rosella extract each with a bit of the hot water to let it dissolve. Then mix in the pear juice and cold drinking water. Stir to combine.

  4. Divide and pour the mixture into two glasses and add in the sliced strawberries to the iced tea.
